Remand for six murder accused

IMPHAL, Jan 16 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East has remanded the six persons who were arrested in connection with the abduction of one Md Shahnawas (33) of Kairang Mayai Leikai on January 14 to police custody till January 27.
Accused Sagolsem Chingkheinganba (25), s/o Tomba of Andro Kharam Leikai; Chingakham Sanatomba (19), s/o Ibungo of Andro Kharam Leikai; Sapam Somorjit (32), s/o (L) Silindro of Andro Loupaochum; Chingakham Mani (41), s/o Shyambandhu of Andro Maringthel; Maibam Bokenjit (24), s/o Shyamjai of Ukhongshang Maning Leikai and Athokpam Jiban (30), s/o Jiten of Dolaithabi were arrested last night from near Thoubal district hospital.
All six of them were produced before the Court through video conferencing by Heingang police with a prayer to send them to police custody for smooth investigation of the case.
What APP says
The wife of the victim lodged a complaint with Heingang police station regarding the abduction of her husband on January 14 at around 6.45 pm from Kairang Tera Makhong area by some unknown persons.
The abductors, on the same day (January 14), made multiple phone calls to the victim's family and demanded Rs 5 lakh.
The abductors asked the victim's family to bring the money to Andro.
Md Shahnawas, the abductee, was brought to Thoubal district hospital at around 5 pm yesterday by the abductors but the person was declared brought dead by the doctors, the APP continued.
In a further course of investigation, the IO visited the hospital and conducted an inquest of the corpse.
Whilst near the hospital, the police learnt that some suspects were nearby and accordingly detained the accused along with one four wheeler vehicle.
The accused have accepted the charges levelled against them.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the material on record, remanded all the six accused to police custody till January 27.
