IMPHAL, Jan 15 : YBC, Langdum and FFCCA, Angtha registered contrasting quarterfinal victories to progress into the semi-finals of the 7th Thingujam (O) Nganbi Devi Memorial Football Tournament 2025.
The league cum knock-out tournament is being organised by the Social Workers' Congress, Khongman at its playground since January 5.
In the first quarterfinal match of the 16-team tournament, Group B runners up YBC, Langdum got the better of SDA, Kyamgei Muslim, who finished Group A winners, by a solitary goal to seal their place in the semi-final.
The lone goal that made all the difference was scored by Jameson in the 21st minute.
Later in the second quarterfinal match, Group D runners up FFCCA, Angtha ran riot to devastate Group C winners KYO, Nongthombam Leikai by 8-1 goals.
FFCCA started the game with a bang and enjoyed a 2-1 first half lead before pumping in 6 more goals in the second half to earn the commanding win and set up a semi-final date with YBC, Langdum. Mustofa starred in the match adding thrice for the Angtha team as Md Nawaz scored twice.
Md Nawaz put FFCCA ahead after 17 minutes but the lead was cancelled by Rahul by converting a penalty for KYO in the 24th minute.
Mustofa managed to retain the lead for the Angtha team in the 28th minute before Malemnganba extended the lead to 3-1 after 43 minutes.
FFCCA continued to look for more goals and eventually enjoyed a three-goal cushion with K Bobosana coolly converting a penalty in the 47th minute before Md Nawaz completed his double in the 56th minute. Despite enjoying a commanding 5-1 lead, FFCCA kept pressing KYO and saw Mustofa netting his second in the 57th minute to make it 6-1 after 57 minutes.
The scoring spree continued with Tomthinn scoring FFCCA's 7th goal after 68 minutes before Mustofa struck three minutes into the stoppage time (70+3') to complete his treble and the 8-1 demolition of KYO.
Group B winners ABA, Kshetrigao will play Group A runners up WPC, Angtha in the third quarterfinal match tomorrow from 12.15 pm before Group D winners BSU, Keirao take on Group C runners up Khagee Club, Kyamgei Mamang Leikai in the last quarterfinal match from 2.30 pm.
