Pfosena Union celebrates silver jubilee at Purunamei

Pfosena Union consisting of all villages from Pfosemei (Pudunamei)  celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Purunamei under the theme, "Know thy Root" at Pudunamei local ground.
The event was graced by Prof Dr Xavier Pfokrehe, Head, Dept of Philosophy, NEHU, Ex- member of ICPR as the chief guest, Chamaikho Kala Puni, Evangelist (Retd) Village Headman, Puni Pfosemei village as the guest of honour and Nepuni Kaikho, Retd Executive Director, NEEPCO, Shillong as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Pfosena Union, advisor P Athuo stated that with the growth of population and the land being limited, some visionary leaders from the village began to think of out-migrating the village in search of greener pastures.
Since then, there was a persistent urge to venture out for new settlements and establishment of new villages by many other visionary and courageous men. The new village establishments took place at Daili village in Kangpokpi area, Puni Pfosemei village, Taphou Pudunamei and Sadim Pfosemei village apart from settling in different units like Kohima, Dimapur, Imphal, Guwahati-Shillong unit, etc.
The need to set up the Pfosena Union was discussed way back in 1997-98 that led to the formation of the Pfosena Union in 1999.
Although scattered, they are prospering in their own places in various manners and also making valuable contributions to the society at large in various capacities.
Special guest, Nepuni Kaikho in his speech stated that people have honoured the Pfosemei villagers for their generosity and honesty since the past. Although there are many learned persons in the village, the guest encouraged the youth to aim higher even in future to make the village stand tall.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Dr Xavier urged the villagers to unite and keep away from evil practices and build up a brighter future by building up the children of the village.
Emphasising importance in education, the chief guest stated that lack of knowledge and wisdom could mislead the common people.
The chief guest also encouraged the villagers to become members of parliament, ministers, and elected representatives.
He also urged the gathering to lead a righteous life in order to prosper and live a long life.
The event also honoured around 300 Nolopfii (women who have been married to outside villages) with gifts.
Different cultural items were showcased during the program. More than 2,000 delegates from the Pfosena Union consisting of Pudunamei, Puni Pfosemei, Sadim Pfosemei, Daili village, Kohima unit, Dimapur unit, Imphal unit and Guwahati/Shillong unit attended the program.
