Two officers from Manipur honoured with Veteran Achievers' Award

IMPHAL, Jan 15: Two retired Army officers from Manipur have been honoured with the prestigious "Veteran Achievers' Award".
General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, presented the prestigious award to Lt Colonel L Manongba (retired) of 11 Gorkha Rifles and Subedar Major (Honorary Lieutenant) P Piju Mao (retired) of 2nd Naga Regiment on the occasion of the 9th Veterans' Day.
General Upendra, as the reviewing officer, also tooks salute of the 77th Army Day parade at the BEG Centre in Pune, Maharashtra on Wednesday.
According to a release issued by the Wings of Hope Charitable Trust, Lt Col L Manongba and Subedar Major (Honorary Lieutenant) P Piku Mao have been selected for their tireless efforts & valuable contribution to Nation building, service to their States & society, besides bridging the communities in times of calamity.
They are the sole recipient from North East India, of this newly established prestigious national level award.
Notably, Lt Col L Manongba has made silent but remarkable efforts in reaching out to the ex-servicemen, specially those residing in the remotest corners of hill & valley of the State.
The Wings of Hope Charitable Trust, captained by him & supported by a highly committed team, has been giving continuous financial support for the year long education to 60 orphan students.
The trust has embarked successfully on alternative livelihood support to many widows. These orphans & widows are all unfortunate victims of the recent clashes in Manipur.
Besides, Subedar Major (Honorary Lieutenant) P Piju Mao has been instrumental in establishing a private basic pre recruitment training facility in the lovely misty hills of Makhan village, Senapati district.
With his tireless efforts, almost 100 young boys have passed recruitment tests & joined the Indian Army as Agni Veers and many joined the CAPF vacancies.
