TYCM locks TRI office

IMPHAL, Jan 11 : Volunteers of Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), General Headquarters have locked the office of Tribal Research Institute (TRI) at Chingmeirong today.
TYCM, in a statement, said that the TRI office has not been functioning properly for months despite repeated appeals by people to resolve the issue.
The Council claimed that the Director and the Administrative cum Research Officer of TRI have not been attending office.
Saying that TYCM had submitted a memorandum to the Director of TRI to ensure normal operations of the office from January 15, 2025 onwards, the Council added that the office, however, was found closed today during office hours at around 2.57 pm. Weakening of TRI and shortage of staff at the institute has greatly affected the tribal communities, the Council said and urged the Government to ensure smooth functioning of TRI.
The Government should take responsibility for all eventuality if the demand is not heeded, it further cautioned.
