NSCN (IM) ridicules police claims on Molham Kuki village
SENAPATI, Jan 14
The NSCN (IM) has strongly refuted the recent statement of Manipur Police regarding the status of Molham Kuki village, emphasizing that the village serves as a stronghold for Kuki militants rather than a base for Border Security Force (BSF).
In a statement issued by its MIP, the NSCN (IM) underscored that the assertion made by Manipur Police–– BSF coys will be stationed in Molham Kuki village—is "ridiculously misleading."
The outfit questioned the credibility of the claim and pointed to a long-standing concern of collusion between the Centre and State Governments with Kuki militants.
“Molham Kuki village is the main base of Kuki militants, housing approximately 200 of them,” the statement read.
The NSCN (IM) criticized the Manipur Police for their alleged “deliberate attempt to mislead the public” by asserting that the BSF would be stationed in the village. The council insisted that no such BSF or Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camps exist in Molham Kuki village. Instead, it is known to be used as the headquarters of Kuki militants, the outfit contended.
The NSCN (IM) warned that if the police's claim is true, it would only confirm suspicions of deeper collusion with militant factions.
They further suggested that the presence of BSF coys in the village could provide a cover for Kuki militants, potentially camouflaged as BSF personnel to avoid detection by the Naga Army.
The NSCN(IM) then called for transparency and accountability, stating that the current situation is a “clear indication of the trust deficit” between the police and the public, specially the Naga community.
The statement also addressed the misreporting of a Bihar Regiment camp located at Karong River, which was mistakenly identified by the Manipur Police as a CRPF camp. The NSCN(IM) asked the police to correct the misinformation and restore public trust. They asserted that the true nature of the military presence in Molham Kuki village and surrounding areas must be disclosed to ensure transparency. Even if the public can be misled for a time, such attempts at deception would not hold long in the face of growing awareness, the NSCN(IM) said, and called upon Manipur Police to acknowledge the facts on the ground and work towards rebuilding credibility with the people of the region.
