Veteran Cricket : YWC-L finish Group B winners despite 14-run loss to YPHU

IMPHAL, Jan 14 : YWC, Langthabal (YWC-L) emerged Group B winners even as they suffered a 14-run loss to YPHU, Lalambung in  a crucial league match of the ongoing 21st Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament.
The result also helped YPHU finish group runners and qualified for the quarterfinals alongside YWC-L.
YPHU opted to bat first after winning the toss this morning at Langthabal Public Ground and amassed a commendable total of 217 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 30 overs thanks to a quickfire 74 off 37 balls by Jinta Irengbam.
Alai Konj 34, Boiton 20 not out, Ponil 18, L Surjit 17, Khoisnam Hemanta 17 and Dularva Singh 10 also made double digit scores for the Lalambung side in the innings that saw Laishram Dinachandra (2/44), L Sasi (2/43) and L Tejkumar (2/35) sharing 6 wickets.
Chasing 218 for the victory, YWC fought bravely before they slumped to 203 all out in 27.5 overs despite memorable knocks from L Sasi (62 off 31 balls) and M Ashokumar (45 off 41 balls) as Kumarkanta (3/37), Devkumar (3/39) and Ponil (2/34) combined well to derail the chase. Jinta and Boiton of YPHU also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
S Kumarjit 28, L Manaobi 18 and Laishram Dinachandra 13 also managed double digit runs for YWC in a lost cause.
Jinta Irengbam of YPHU, who shone with both the bat and ball, was adjudged man of the match.
