IMPHAL, Jan 13: The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) and the Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (LPNR) have vehemently condemned the attack that occurred on the evening of January 12, 2025 at 7 pm at Maremei Liangmai village, Senapati district.
At the behest of RK Remping and his grandsons, members of NSCN (IM) perpetrated a heinous crime against six innocent women and two men in the Maremei village, LNKR and LPNR alleged in a joint press release.
The innocent homemakers were subjected to savage attack with cane sticks, heavy blows from weapon butts, and mercilessly kicked leaving them gravely injured and traumatized.
The victims were further subjected to degrading and inhuman treatment and sexual harassment threatening them with loaded weapons, it said.
After the assault, the attackers even refused the victims to be taken to the nearest hospital at Senapati town.
It was only after the intervention of the Naga People's Organisation (NPO), the victims could be taken to Senapati Hospital for treatment of severe physical injuries and emotional trauma.
One critically injured victim has been transferred to Raj Medicity at Imphal for treatment, it said.
This egregious act of violence is not only a gross violation of human rights but also a grave attack on the safety and security of women, the two Liangmai bodies said.
They demanded immediate arrest of RK Remping and his grandsons including the NSCN (IM) cadres.
A fair and impartial inquiry into the attack and sexual harassment must be conducted and ensure accountability and prevent future incidents, they said. Immediate protection along with physical, emotional and mental support must be provided to the survivors to ensure their well being and recovery, said the joint press release.
Saying that violence against women is a crime against humanity and must be eradicated at all costs, it called upon all to work together to create a society where women can live with dignity, free from fear and oppression.
“We urge the State Government, law enforcement agencies, Naga CSOs and all the right thinking individuals to condemn this act and take collective responsibility to ensure delivery of justice”, it continued. It added that the Liangmai community stands in unwavering solidarity with the victims and their families and vows to pursue this matter until justice is delivered.
