IW 2nd Division Football League SJC go top temporarily with 3-0 thrashing of THAU

IMPHAL, Jan 13 : SJC, Salam romped to a 3-0 win against THAU, Thangmeiband to consolidate themselves in the pole position of the league table of the ongoing 12th Second Division Football League organised by Imphal West District Football Association.
Having won twice and drawn once in the last four matches, SJC resumed their bid for top of the table finish confidently and raced to a 2-0 lead before the break in their ultimate league match this afternoon at PAMYAL ground, Patsoi.
It was L Ronit who broke the deadlock after 14 minutes before S Dhiren doubled the advantage in the 39th minute.
After the restart, THAU who had also registered three wins in the last four matches, amped up their defence while making all efforts to cut the deficit at the same time.
SJC defence however did well to thwart their bid and to pile more pressure on THAU, Ronaldo scored the team's third goal in the 77th minute thereby making THAU comeback almost impossible.
The win lifted SJC to the top on 10 points while THAU had to go third with 9 points below SOYO who are also on the same 9 points but with a match left to spare.
Earlier in the day, ESA, Mayang Imphal cruised 4-1 past IUFC, Awang Sekmai to cap their campaign with two wins.
The match saw Shad Shah (4') and David (26') scoring a goal apiece to give ESA 2-0 lead before Vishal pulled back a goal in the 27th minute for IUFC.
After the restart, Alex scored back to back in the 48th and the 68th minutes to earn ESA the 4-1 victory.
With the result, IUFC finished the league tournament with any win.
SOYO, Sanjembam will seek to finish on top of the table as they play MTSU, Malom in the final league match of the tournament tomorrow.
