IMPHAL, Jan 13 : Guru Ningombam Leirenjao Centre of Pung on Sunday organised an awards distribution ceremony at its premises in Khongman Zone V.
It was attended by M Joy, Commissioner, Art & Culture; M Nungshirei, Pradhan, Khongman GP and Ningombam Heramani, vice president, Guru Ningombam Leirenjao Centre of Pung as presidium members..
During the ceremony, the 4th Guru Ningombam Leirenjao Memorial Award was presented to Guru Sapam Kulabi of Langthabal Lap Awang Leikai while the 2nd Guru Ningombam Ibobi Memorial Award was given to Guru Ngairangbam Tomcha of Ghari Awang Leikai.
The awards include a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each along with citation, shawl and "Kokyet".
Speaking on the occasion, M Joy said that Nata Sankirtana is a sublime cultural form which paves way for one to transcend from material world to spiritual world.
"Nata Sankirtana has been inscribed on the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" said M Joy while emphasising on the importance of learning Nata Sankirtana by the youths of the State so that the rich heritage of this art is carried forward.
M Joy also urged all to provide their support in preserving and developing the age-old cultural heritage preserved & bestowed by the ancestors.
Meanwhile, Apunba Sorokhaibam Sagei Trust (ASST) organised a felicitation function for achievers of the Sorokhaibam clan at Manipur Press Club on Sunday.
It was attended by Lamsang AC MLA, Sorokhaibam Rajen; ASST president, Sorokhaibam Tomba and ASST vice president, Sorokhaibam Naba as presidium members.
During the function, Sorokhaibam Goutam, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Sorokhaibam Saratchandra, Assistant Commandant, 3rd IRB were honoured with simple gifts and citations.
Elders of Sorokhaibam clan also gave their blessings to Sorokhaibam Goutam and Sorokhaibam Saratchandra.
