IMPHAL, Jan 13: The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to take up necessary steps urgently for resettlement of Meitei people displaced from Moreh at their original homes (Moreh).
Commenting on the Governor’s assurance that normal trade/economic activities of Moreh (Indo- Myanmar border trade) would be resumed shortly, the MCM decried that the Governor’s assurance is an insult to the Meitei people displaced from Moreh.
“While we are appealing to the Government time and gain for restoring normalcy at Moreh and allowing us to go back to our homes for peaceful co-existence with other communities like before, resuming economic and trade activities at Moreh without us is a clear case of depriving us of our rights”, the MCM said in a letter submitted to the Governor.
It pointed out that the Meitei people displaced from Moreh have been staying in relief camps and in the homes of friends and relatives in very awkward and difficult conditions. The MCM said that most of the IDPs depend on the meagre supply given by the Government.
“As we have no source of income, the future of our children looks quite bleak. If we were in Moreh, we would be able to earn like before and afford our children’s education”, it said. It then urged the Governor to take up necessary actions at the earliest so that the Meitei people can resettle at their original homes at Moreh.
