AR refutes

IMPHAL, Jan 12 : Assam Rifles has refuted the claim that its personnel harassed people at Hongbei village in Kamjong district.
In a statement, IGAR (South) said that  Assam Rifles personnel manning the post at Hongbei inspected a vehicle loaded with timber and discerned that the person did not have mandated documents.
Following procedures, Assam Rifles personnel stopped the vehicle, it said.
Saying that nefarious elements instigated the local population to secure the release of  the vehicle, it added that the crowd turned violent and the Assam Rifles personnel used appropriate and calibrated response.
Senior officials of Assam Rifles are in discussion with the administration to resolve the issue, it said.
