IMPHAL, Jan 11 : Manipur's noted tennis player Tuleswor Thongbam secured the title of the 55+ singles title at the SV Ramayya Memorial MT 400 World Tennis Masters jointly organised by ITF and Kolkata South Club in Kolkata from January 6.
Tuleswor defeated Tikam Singh Panwar 6-2, 6-4 in the title clash today to seal the top honour.
Earlier in the semi-final, Tuleswor defeated Biswajit Bhattacharjee 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final. In the first round, Tuleswor eased to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jitendra Joshi before breezing 6-1, 6-1 past Raj Dutta in the quarterfinal match.
Meanwhile, Ribhaskar Thoudam has advanced to the men's 35+ doubles final with Kartikeya Singh Verma as the duo won 6-2, 6-2 against Mahendra Mahi and Parth Sahasrabudhe today in the semi-final match.
Earlier in the quarterfinal the duo sealed a 6-1, 6-1 win against Arun Bhosale and Ranveer Singh Deo.
Notably, Ribhaskar had made it to the singles semi-final with 6-2, 6-2 win against Anil Kumar Hudda in the first round and an easy 6-0, 6-0 win against Sumit Agarwal in the second round. He however suffered a 2-6, 3-6 loss to Jitin Bishnoi in the semi-final.
