NIA set to quiz accused

IMPHAL, Jan 10 : The Special Court of NIA, Manipur has permitted NIA to question two persons who were arrested by Assam Police Special Task Force along with 10 TB30 intelligent flight batteries used in a drone on June 14 and June 15 last year from the toll gate along National Highway 27 near Guwahati.
The application was filed by NIA Imphal Branch with regard to the investigation of aerial bombing using drones by Kuki militants at Koutruk and Kadangband villages under Lamsang police station on September 1 last year.
Khaigoulen Kipgen (27) s/o Hensat Kipgen of Gamngai village Kangpokpi and Sanjib @ Sanjeev Kumar Mishra (52), s/o Late Harish Chand Noonmati of Guwahati are the two accused and they currently are lodged at Guwahati Central Jail
The application of NIA was filed under Section 176 of BNSS.
Special PP of NIA submitted that armed Kuki militants attacked Koutruk and Kadangband from the nearby hill range using sophisticated weapons like snipers and drones to drop bombs on September 1 last year.
Further, the NIA submitted that a 31 year old woman died on the spot and her minor daughter sustained severe injuries during the attack.
A case was registered at Lamsang police station against the unknown Kuki militants pertaining to the attack.
The case was later taken over by NIA in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs order dated September 17, 2023.
The Court after hearing the submission of Special PP NIA and on perusal of material on record permitted NIA to question the two accused.
The Court, meanwhile, said that the statements of the two accused have to be recorded within the premises of Guwahati Central Jail.

On the next day (June 15), co accused Sanjib Kumar Mishra was arrested along with drone parts from Rupnagar area of Guwahati while trying to transport it to militant groups in Manipur.
