Woman gets bail after arrest for Facebook post

IMPHAL, Jan 10 : The Court of  Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has granted bail to  a 44 year old woman who was arrested on the charge of defaming BJP, Manipur spokesperson Mayanglambam Suresh Kumar and spreading rumour on Facebook.
Accused Keithellakpam ongbi Sapana Devi of Naoremthong Shamushang Lairembi Leirak was produced before the Court by a team of Imphal police station today along with a prayer to send her to police custody for five days.
The defence counsel, on the other hand,  filed a remand objection and sought bail.
APP of the State submitted that the BJP Manipur spokesperson, on January 7, lodged a police complaint against the accused for spreading rumours on social media with false information.
The complainant further mentioned that Mayanglambam Suresh Kumar came to know that a video was uploaded by Sapana Devi on Facebook in which she defamed Suresh Kumar  and the BJP mockingly.
The APP further said that the accused has accepted the charges levelled against her.
The accused said that she was furious on seeing the BJP, Manipur spokesperson being disrespectful to women on social media and so she uploaded the video in response.
The Court after hearing the submission of APP, defence counsel and on perusal of the material on record granted bail to Sapana.
