34th Senior National Sepaktakraw C'ship Men register two wins in team event as women assure semi-final berth

IMPHAL, Jan 10 : Manipur senior women's team posted two of two team event wins to assure themselves of a semi-final ticket as the men's team won twice and lost one to keep their semi-final hopes alive in the 34th Senior National Sepaktakraw Championship that began today.
The championship hosted by Telangana at Hanumakonda Indoor Stadium, Warangal under the aegis of the Sepaktakraw Federation of India will run till January 14.
In the women's team event group (B) stage matches, State girls defeated hosts Telangana 3-0 in the first match before beating Haryana in the same fashion.
The first regu pulled off an easy 15-6, 15-6 win against Telangana as the second and third regus sealed 15-10, 15-10 and 15-7, 15-6 wins.
In the second match against Haryana, the first regu sealed a 12-15, 17-14, 15-9 comeback win before the second regu sealed an easy 15-7, 15-10 win and the third regu secured a 15-12, 15-7 win.
The State women will play Nagaland in the remaining league match.
Meanwhile in the men's team event league round opener (Group B), all the three regus breezed past UP (15-10, 15-1; 15-13, 15-12; 15-9, 15-8).
In the following match, Manipur suffered a 1-2 loss to Delhi (9-15, 16-17; 11-15, 15-13, 15-10; 12-15, 3-15) with the first and third regus failing to overcome pressure.
Manipur bounced back against hosts Telangana with the first regu clinching a 15-9, 15-8 win; second regu securing a 15-13, 15-5 win and the third regu pulling off a hard fought 15-8, 10-15, 15-9 comeback win.
Manipur will play Goa in the remaining group stage match.
