IMPHAL, Jan 10: Local clubs of Kyamgei have asked the authorities concerned to halt the Imphal Ring Road project until a proper demarcation which is acceptable to the people is carried out.
Speaking at a press meet held today at Kyamgei Heibong Makhong which was attended by office bearers of Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club and Kyamgei Khagemba Youth Club, Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club vice-president Laishram Roben said that the people of the area welcome Imphal Ring Road for it will bring about significant improvement to the transport infrastructure.
Nonetheless, he expressed keen desire for the Minister and the authorities concerned to implement the project in a very transparent manner in consultation with the local people.
The State land adjoining the road which passes through Kyamgei and would be developed as a part of the ring road must be properly demarcated.
Seeking proper demarcation of the ring road in Kyamgei area, Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club and Kyamgei Khagemba Youth Club submitted representations to the department concerned and the Imphal East Deputy Commissioner in 2021, Laishram Roben said.
A similar representation was submitted to the Chief Minister recently, he said.
Officials came several times for land measurement but the officials never consulted the local authorities.
Apparently, the officials were trying to manipulate the alignment of the road to suit the interests of some influential or powerful individuals, he said.
He also asked the officials concerned to give proper markings of the ring road and see that it does not affect schools, community ponds and local playgrounds as much as possible.
He further asked the authorities concerned to put on hold the ring road construction work until a proper demarcation is carried out. He also asked the authorities to implement the ring road project only after thorough consultation with local clubs, Meira Paibis and the local people.
