SENAPATI, Sep 8: Rikhumai Taphou villagers have refuted the completion report of Jal Jeevan Mission project uploaded on the website of the PHE Department.
This development reportedly came after the PHED claimed on their website that 96% of tap water connection out of 150 households in the village have been implemented.
A press statement issued by PH Fuvei, chairman and S Sousa, secretary of Rikhumai Taphou stated that the work under JJM in their area remains incomplete. Despite the project's importance and the allocated timeline, significant portions of the work are still pending.
Project details included "Augmentation of Rikhumai Taphou Water Scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission" with an objective to enhance water supply infrastructure and provide functional tap water connections to households in the region.
The press release said that several key components of the project including pipeline installation and water storage facilities have not yet been finished in the village. The delay has negatively affected the access to clean and safe drinking water, which is critical for the health and daily living, added the release.
The villagers have sought immediate resolution to the financial, technical, and logistical issues that have caused the delay and further requested a revised timeline for the completion of the project and regular updates on the progress.
Addressing media at the spot where the proposed reservoir was meant to be constructed, village chairman PH Fuvei stated that "having submitted some 40-50 pipes for 20 households" cannot be termed as completing the project without any construction.
The village chairman also reiterated that the whole village is against the completion report which claims that the JJM project has been implemented in the village without its facilities being available till date. he added that no one should compromise on water as it is the source of life for all.
The villagers have requested the concerned authorities to urgently investigate the matter and take up necessary steps to complete the remaining work.
