RIMS condemns assault of security personnel
IMPHAL, Sep 8
The authority of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has strongly condemned the assault on its security personnel Hodam Premchandra Singh who was on duty at the northern gate of the RIMS campus near the MTDC Gate on September 7 at around 5.30 pm.
A police complaint has been filed at the Lamphel Police Station regarding the incident.
According to a release issued by RIMS, the attackers, identified as a group of four to five individuals led by one Chongtham Bijoy Singh, allegedly assaulted and verbally abused Hodam Premchandra Singh while performing duty.
On seeing this, two other security personnel namely Mazibur Rahamanand and Ningthoukhongjam Dolan Singh tried to intervene.
The altercation took place when few unauthorized persons allegedly sneaked through the northern gate. The security staff, adhering to heightened security measures following directives from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India prevented their unauthorized entry in light of the recent Kolkata rape case.
It is important to note that following a District Judge’s order only appellants and their family members (residents of Lamphel Khunou) are allowed to use the road between MTDC gate and SIB gate for their domestic needs, religious purposes, etc. Entry by public through these gates is not permitted due to security reasons.
The RIMS authority expressed serious concern over the incident, citing a similar episode of violence and vandalism that occurred in May this year.
"Acts of violence and blatant disregard for the law will not be tolerated under any circumstances", it added.
The RIMS authority also urged the public to respect the rule of law and refrain from entering through these gates of RIMS, Imphal to its campus.
"Such behaviour undermines the safety and security of everyone on campus, and RIMS will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its staff and the community", it concluded.
