PREPAK claims

IMPHAL, Sep 7: The proscribed PREPAK has claimed its hand in shooting one Meinam Avi Singh (40) s/o M Manigopal of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai on the right leg at Wangoo Naran Chinglak Lamlong, Bishnupur district at around 3.30 pm on Friday.     
A press release issued by the outfit’s publicity officer, Department of Publicity and Propaganda, Mangal Khuman said that Meinam Avi was shot on the leg for extortion of money from the public in the name of PREPAK.
Meinam Avi was pulled up by the outfit’s Special Task Force-I on September 5 and kept in their custody.
On questioning Avi, it was established he was involved in extortion of money in the name of the party at different places, it said.   
The outfit warned that Meinam Avi would be awarded heavier punishment if he ever indulges in such anti-party and anti-social activities.
As disclosed by Avi, names and other details of some other individuals who were also involved in extortion of money from the public in the name of PREPAK are with the party, it said.
The outfit then asked all those individuals to come to the party within five days else they will get heavier punishment than the one awarded to Avi.
It further informed that the party’s letterheads used in seeking financial assistance from the public would be signed by Changkhonba Meitei, Revenue Chief, Department of Finance. PREPAK.
