Sub-Junior Girls' NFC Manipur overwhelm Mizoram 9-0 to enter semi-final

IMPHAL, Sep 6 : Manipur ran riot to notch up an overwhelming 9-0 win over Mizoram at Berhampore Stadium in the final league match (Group A) of the ongoing Sub-Junior Girls' National Football Championship 2024-24 Tier I.
The result helped Manipur finish on top of the Group table and qualify for the semi-final where they play Group C winners.
Julan Nongmaithem, Mongjam Pusparani, Yaiphabi Thokchom and Chingakham Redima all scored doubles as Takhelmayum Ashalata netted one to set up the huge win today.
Having edged past Haryana 3-2 in the group opener and registered a commanding 7-2 win over Tamil Nadu in the second match, the State girls started confidently and pumped in 7 goals before the break before completing the 9-0 demolition.
Julan Nongmaithem took 14 minutes to open the floodgate before Chingakham Redima quickfired two goals back to back in the 19th and the 24th minutes to make it 3-0. The scoring spree continued with Mongjam Pusparani netted the team's fourth in the 25th minute before Yaiphabi Thokchom made it 5-0 after 36 minutes. Pusparani further extended the lead to 6-0 after 38 minutes before Julan had her second two minutes (45+2') into the added time before the break.
Having conceded 7 goals in the first half, the Mizoram girls amped up their defence but Takhelmayum Ashalata who subbed in for Chingakham Redima further swelled Manipur's lead to 8-0 after 55 minutes before Yaiphabi Thokchom took two minutes into the stoppage time (90+2') to complete her double and rounded off the scoring.
