Swachh Bharat Mission : Special event on "Access to Health Facilities & Services" held

IMPHAL, Sep 27 : As part of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Mission (Swabhav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata) campaign, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West, organised a special event on "Access to Health Facilities & Services" today.
According to a release issued by KVK Imphal West, the campaign, which is being conducted from September 14 to October 2, 2024, is focused on promoting health and sanitation awareness among marginalized communities, particularly Safai Mitras and agricultural workers.
The event held at KVK Imphal West was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Dr Ramgopal Laha, Head, ICAR Manipur Centre and Dr Laishram Kanta Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Imphal West.
They were joined by Dr Lydia Zimik, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) and Dr Parsi Himabindu, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), both of KVK Imphal West.
Over 50 participants, including Safai Mitras from the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED), farm contractual workers from KVK and ICAR Manipur, and farmers from the Imphal West district, took part in the programme.
The event highlighted the critical need for accessible health services for sanitation workers and farmers, who often face significant challenges in receiving adequate healthcare.
The campaign focused on key topics such as preventive healthcare, access to medical services, hygiene practices, and the importance of regular health check-ups for Safai Mitras.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramgopal Laha stressed the importance of ensuring that those working on the frontlines of sanitation and agriculture receive proper healthcare support.
He praised the efforts of the Safai Mitras in maintaining public health and emphasized that their health and well-being should be a priority.
Dr Laishram Kanta Singh elaborated on the various health services available to Safai Mitras and farmers, and encouraged them to take advantage of these resources.
He also discussed the role of the Swachh Bharat Mission in improving sanitation and hygiene standards across the country, and how this initiative aims to empower marginalized communities with the tools to lead healthier lives.
Resource persons Dr Fair Brother Ashem and Kh Tanuja shared valuable insights into maintaining personal hygiene and preventing diseases.
They also provided information on government health schemes available to sanitation workers and farmers, emphasizing the importance of immunizations and access to clean drinking water.
The event concluded with an interactive session where participants discussed their health challenges and received guidance on accessing health services. The campaign at ICAR-KVK Imphal West successfully reinforced the mission’s goals of promoting health, hygiene, and sanitation among vulnerable communities.
