World Suicide Prevention Day observed

Chandel, Sep 27: The District Mental Health Programme and District Health Society, Chandel, observed World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 at Oak Hill Christian Academy with an emphasis on "Changing the Narrative on Suicide".
Wanglar Promilata Monsang, SDC, Chandel, graced the event as chief guest alongside Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang, CMO; Dr Shakchung Serbum, Medical Superintendent and Francis Huten, Principal, Oak Hill Christian Academy, as guests of honour.
The program commenced with prayers and an opening song followed by a mental health knowledge test for students.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Robindro Khangembam, Senior Psychiatrist and DNO, DMHP, Chandel gave a detailed presentation focusing on suicide prevention and steps to overcome depression to have good mental health and prevent oneself from suicidal ideation.
Meanwhile, the chief guest stressed on meditation, prayer and self-awareness as tools to combat depression and prevent suicide.
Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang highlighted the importance of awareness among youths and finding inner peace through prayer and skill development.
On the occasion, the winners of a slogan writing competition held from September 1 to 10 across eight schools was also announced.
Notably, Rithahring Daryal (United College), Thaithuilung Kamei (Oak Hill Christian Academy) and Kiirii Parii Monsang (Oak Hill Christian Academy) bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.
Meanwhile, Playson Pashel (Oriental School), Kiirii Toninghring Monsang (St Peter's Higher Secondary School) and Kuhthuwl Huten (Oak Hill Christian Academy) were declared as consolation prize winners.
Ng Rameson Monsang, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP, Chandel, extended the vote of thanks.
Approximately 250 students from 7 schools participated in the event.
