IMPHAL, Sep 27: The Pambei-led UNLF has clarified that they were not involved in the assault of one Wilubou Marenmai of Khunkhu village by two persons impersonating as UNLF at Sekmai Nongthonband near Sekmai LPG bottling plant on September 25.
The two impersonators are not members of the outfit, said a press release issued by Pambei-led UNLF’s media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom.
Soon after learning about the assault, a team of the outfit went to the spot and investigated the matter.
CCTV footage revealed that the two assailants are unknown to the party and it was established that no member of the party was involved in the incident, it said.
The investigating team also talked with Marenmai and they are working to identify the assailants.
The outfit is deeply concerned with the incident which challenged the party’s principle of respecting every community of Manipur and peaceful co-existence among all the communities.
The particular incident has the potential to discredit the outfit and create divisions among the communities living together in Manipur, it said.
Asking all the people not to carry out any such activity against any community in the name of the outfit, it warned that all the people involved in such anti-party and anti-national activities would be punished.
It also appealed to all the communities not to react to such incidents on communal lines.
Saying that there are rogue or anti-social elements in every community, it appealed to all the communities to work together to punish/correct such elements.
