Campaign on cow protection reaches Imphal

IMPHAL, Sep 27 : Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati who is on a Nationwide campaign to declare cow as the Nation's mother and to prevent cow slaughter landed in Imphal, today.
Soon after his arrival, the Swami went to Shree Shree Govindajee Temple and Bal Vidya Mandir at Palace Compound as part of Gau Dhwaj Yatra ( (Promotion of a ban on cow slaughter).
The Swami hoisted a Gau Dhwaj (cow flag) at Bal Vidya Mandir campus.
At the school, a Gau Mahashava was held where the Swami spoke about the need to unite cow-worshipping Hindus across India and work towards eliminating cow slaughter.
The Swami also said that those who follow Sanatana Dharma hold cows in high regard and treat them as a holy animal.
Saying that the significance of cows is also written in religious texts like Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas, he reiterated that Hindus worship cows as gaomata.
The Swami also said that slaughtering cows and eating beef is against the principle of Hinduism.
He also said that a collective effort is needed to ban cow slaughter.
The Swami left for Mizoram after his short stay in Imphal.
