Andro wins Tourism Village award

IMPHAL, Sep 27: Andro village of Manipur has been bestowed the prestigious award of Best Tourism Village in the Heritage category in the 2024 edition of the Best Tourism Villages Competition, organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
The Ministry felicitated officials of Manipur Tourism and representatives of Andro village at an event held at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi today to celebrate the World Tourism Day 2024, said a press release issued by the Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited (TCML)
The chief guest of the function, Jagdeep Dhankar, Vice President of India, congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism development.
The event was attended by officials from Manipur Tourism and representatives from Andro Village, including MLA/TCML Chairman Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh and W Ibohal Singh, Director  (Tourism), Manipur.
Andro village's unique cultural heritage and traditional practices have been a major factor in its selection as the Best Tourism Village in the Heritage category.
The village is home to the Panam Ningthou Temple, a significant heritage tourism site that showcases the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.
The villagers of Andro have adopted several strategies to engage the local community in promoting and sustaining their heritage while also involving them in tourism activities.
The village has established community-based organizations and committees that focus on the conservation, preservation, and promotion of their heritage.
These groups work together with local authorities, historians, and other stakeholders to develop and implement plans and initiatives that benefit the entire community.
The village's unique cultural heritage, including the centuries-old fire worship and the Panam Ningthou Temple, attract tourists from various parts of the world.
