IMPHAL, SEP 26: The Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) has said today that the flagship programme of the NDA Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "honour legendary freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu" by constructing a museum in her memory at her birth place (Luangkao) is yet to be materialized.
The Rongmei student body said that, even though the foundation stone for construction of "Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum" at Luangkao village was virtually laid on November 22, 2021 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, symbolizing the recognition of the immense contributions of Rani Gaidinliu and the "tribal communities in India's fight for freedom".
The RNSOM said three years have lapsed but no construction work has been taken up. It then asked, "What is the reason for delaying the construction of the said museum for so long despite the necessary fund sanction was already accorded by the Government of India and the Ministry concerned?"
In this regard many representations had already been submitted to the Government of India and the Government of Manipur by different Rongmei organisations as well as Zeliangrong civil organizations, the student body claimed.
It  urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to expedite the construction of Tribal Freedom Fighter  Museum in honour of Rani Gaidinliu at her native place Luangkao.
In the event of further delaying the construction work of the said museum, the RNSOM in collaboration of various organisations and the general public will take up democratic forms of agitation till "our demand is materialized", it added.
