IMPHAL, Sep 26 : The Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ) has condemned the alleged attack on one Wilubou Marenmai, a resident of Khunkhu Naga village and a truck driver for Thomson Gas Agency at Nongthombam Sekmai on the charge of supplying arms to Kuki militants.
In a statement, the Liangmai Naga Council said that Marenmai was assaulted by two individuals who identified themselves as members of an insurgent group near the LPG bottling plant at Nongthombam Sekmai under Sekrmai Police Station.
Saying that the truck driver was severely injured and traumatised, LNC-EZ added that this is not an isolated incident of attacking the  Naga community amid the unrest.
The Naga community has long been subjected to trauma, harassment, physical violence, extortion, and threats from extremist groups, particularly along NH-2 and in the Imphal region, it added.
"Our community's neutrality and commitment to peace are being exploited by those who mistake our silence and goodwill for weakness. Such acts of barbarism and lawlessness have no place in today's society and represent a grave threat to the peace and security of the Liangmai Naga people," it said.
Urging every Naga citizen to remain united and resolute in standing against violent forces 'that threaten our peace and security,'  LNC-EZ appealed to all militant groups to stop harming innocent civilians. Moreover, the LNC-EZ called upon the State Government to urgently introduce effective measures to protect civilians, particularly  the Naga community.
Further urging the law enforcement to apprehend the perpetrators who assaulted the truck driver within two days, the Council said that they will continue to stand firm in its commitment to protect the rights and safety of the Naga people.
