IMPHAL, Sep 25: The Women Front of the World Meetei Council (WMC) Manipur State Unit has condemned an FIR filed against Heigrujam Nabashyam, chairman of the WMC.
The FIR was filed by a member who has been expelled from the WMC. The filing of this FIR by disgruntled individuals, seemingly in collusion with some politicians, represents a concerted effort to undermine Meetei’s legitimate demand to enlist the community in the list of Scheduled Tribes. Such anti-Meetei tactics must be firmly condemned by all who value justice, said the Women Front of the WMC in a statement.
"We are deeply shocked by the summon letter received from the police on September 22, 2024. As the founder chairman of the WMC, Shri Heigrujam Nabashyam has dedicated his life to the welfare of the Meetei people, championing their rightful demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Under his leadership, the WMC has tirelessly pursued this critical cause, embodying the hopes and aspirations of our community," it said.
The Women Front of theWMC stands resolutely with the chairman and reaffirms "our commitment" to the Meetei cause, it said, urging the police to dismiss the "unfounded FIR".
The FIR has no valid basis and it serves only to distract the Meeteis from "our collective goal", it added.
