IMPHAL, Sep 24 : A likely political storm looms large in Manipur in the backdrop of the current unrest as the National People's Party (NPP), a coalition partner of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh led Government, has scheduled a key party meeting on September 27 at Guwahati to decide its course ahead.
As per a credible source, the NPP is likely to review its political position in Manipur during the meeting and take a decision whether to continue supporting the Government or not.
The meeting  will reportedly be presided by party president cum Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Notably, NPP National vice president and former Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar had also stated recently that NPP may  walk away from the coalition Government if there is no solution to the protracted crisis engulfing Manipur by October 3.
The State unit of NPP had also discussed the situation in Manipur with Conrad Sangma multiple times.
It is reported that Conrad Sangma has sent an invitation to all its seven NPP MLAs in the State, office bearers, executive members and those who contested the recent Assembly election on the party's ticket to attend the meeting which will take place at Hotel Radisson at Guwahati on September 27 without fail.
As per the source, there are some differences of opinion between the NPP MLAs and party office bearers and executive members on some issues including on supporting the Government.
While most of the NPP MLAs still want the party to go along with the Government as one of its coalition partners, party office bearers, executive members and those who contested the 2022 Assembly election on the party's ticket  want NPP to withdraw its support to the Government over the failure of the BJP led Government to resolve the over 16 months long crisis in Manipur, added the source.
It is further reported that the NPP will surely decide whether to continue supporting the Manipur Govern- ment or not during the meeting scheduled on September 27.
This development aligns with what  Y Joykumar had said twice on reviewing  the party's support to the State Government.
In September last year, the former Deputy Chief Minister had stated that there is no obligation for the NPP to endorse every decision taken by the BJP simply because it is an ally in the Government.
