Grenade placed

IMPHAL, Sep 24:  Some unidentified persons placed a high explosive hand grenade at the residence of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Laishangbam Lokeshor at Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Lairembi Maning this afternoon.
According to information culled from the spot, two unknown persons came to the residence of the IMC Mayor at around 1.30 pm and placed a hand grenade wrapped in a black polythene bag.
Lokeshor is currently outside the State for treatment of a medical problem.
Lokeshor’s mother and a woman from the neighbourhood were in the verandah when the two unknown persons came and left the bomb.
Soon after getting information about the presence of the hand grenade, a team of Singjamei police station rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to prevent others from going near the bomb.
Later, the hand grenade was safely retrieved by a bomb disposal squad.
A case has been registered at Singjamei police station in connection with the incident.
Lokeshor’s wife Laishangbam Bedarani urged all concerned to clarify who were responsible for placing the bomb and why.  
She vehemently condemned the act of placing the bomb in broad daylight at  the thickly populated locality when the whole State has been reeling under a critical crisis.
Pointing out that the Kukis are currently waging war against the Meiteis and the Meiteis have been struggling to defend themselves, she expressed strong disapproval against such acts of turning against Meiteis by Meiteis and placing bombs at private residences.
She said that all grievances and misunderstandings, if there are any, can be sorted out peacefully through talks.
