Bank Manager remanded

IMPHAL, Sep 23 :   Senior Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda, Manipur University Branch, Canchipur has been remanded to police custody till September 25 in connection with the looting of gold worth around Rs 4 crore from the locker of the bank by unknown persons on September 12 at around 1.41 am.
While Branch Manager Ganga Ningombam (41) w/o Johnson of Kakching Makha Leikai was arrested on September 22, three other persons identified as Khaidem Jackiechand (38) s/o  Kh Kulla of Khurkhul Makha Leikai, Garry Moirangthem (21) s/o Somendro of Thongju Part II and Akoijam Renash (20) s/o Premjit of Ningombam Awang Leikai were arrested earlier on September 20.
Ganga was produced before a Duty Magistrate yesterday while the other three were produced before a Duty Magistrate on September 21 and they too were remanded to police custody till September 25.
Khaidem Jackiechand is said to be the Gold Loan Manager of the bank while Akoijam Renash was assigned the task of opening and closing the bank.
Sources said that the incident came to light after Ganga Ningombam lodged a complaint at Singjamei police station on September 17 stating that on opening the bank at 10 am on the same day, the bank cashier found that some of the gold packets were missing from the gold vault.
Based on the complaint, a police team checked the CCTV camera installed in the bank and saw two persons inside the Branch Manager’s chamber at around 1.14 am on September 12. Then all of a sudden the CCTV was switched off.
Sources said no evidence of tampering of the safe/locker by using any instrument could be seen in the course of investigation. It was evident that the safe/locker was opened using the master key.
