IMPHAL, Sep 23: In case drivers are detained or arrested and licenses are cancelled in the name of enforcing Government directives on the number of students a school van can carry, transporters will cease service immediately, said All Manipur School Students' Transporter Association (AMSSTA) today.
AMSSTA, in a statement said it welcomes the Government directives to limit the number of students per van. However, in the name of enforcing the directives, vehicles are being stopped and challans are being issued allegedly for carrying children beyond permissible limit, it said.
In addition, the transporters have been threatened by the Government that license of vehicles will be suspended on the ground of violating the directives. The issue requires thorough deliberation involving the Government and all stakeholders, it said.
If any member (driver) of the AMSSTA is detained or arrested and challans are issued or licences are cancelled, transporters will cease service immediately, the association said.
