Gale leaves trail of destruction, woman hurt

TBL/IMP, Sep 21: Even as one woman sustained grie-vous injury in a lightning strike at Thambalkhong today afternoon, strong wind or gale which swept through Manipur left behind a trail of destruction at some places.
The woman who was hit by lightning has been identified as Lukram Roshni w/o L Kenedy of Thambalkhong Mayai Leikai and she is  undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital.
She suffered 30 per cent  burn injury and a traumatic brain injury as she was hit by lightning while collecting snails at a paddy field.
Her condition is reportedly critical and she is on ventilation support.
Meanwhile, strong winds which swept through parts of Manipur blew off 8-9 houses and one school at Tapon Naga Liangmai village in Kangpokpi and about 15 houses at Yumnam Patlou in Imphal East.
The villagers urged the Government to extend some sort of assistance to the affected families in rebuilding their houses.
The wind also blew off the entire roof of a house at Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai in Thoubal today at around 11 am and the roof fell on the neighbour's place.
The ill-fated house belongs to one Yendrembam Shyamchand (48).
Like Minded Group and Tengbang Lup have extended financial assistance of Rs 7,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively to Shyamchand to help him in repairing his house.
Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal branch also donated tarpaulin to Shyamchand to be used as roof for the time being.
