Ningthoukhong massacre accused remanded

IMPHAL, Sep 21: Special Court, NIA Manipur today remanded Lunminsei Kipgen in judicial custody in con-nection with the massacre of four innocent persons near a water treatment plant at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Bishnupur district on January 18, 2024 at around 3.50 pm.
Lunminsei Kipgen alias Langinmang alias Mang alias Levis (35) s/o Songin of Mamong village, Henglep block, Churachandpur was taken into the NIA custody on September 19 for interrogation from Lokhra Central Jail with due permission from the Court concerned.
The prime accused of the massacre was produced before the Special Court, NIA Manipur through video conference along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
A special PP appearing for the NIA submitted that during interrogation the prime accused voluntarily disclosed that videographs and photographs of his actions during the ongoing violence were taken on his mobile phone and some other viral videos of his action were also taken by his accomplices.
After hearing the submission of the special PP and on perusal of the case record, the Court remanded the prime accused in judicial custody and directed the NIA to produce him before the same Court on October 5.
On January 18, 2024, Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons came down from Lamlai Kabui village to the water supply plant located in the middle of paddy fields at Ningthou-khong Kha Khunou after travelling around 2 Kms.
Then they massacred four civilians including a father- son duo who were keeping watch over the water treatment plant.
The deceased were identified as Oinam Bamonjao, his son Oinam Manitomba, Thiyam Somendro and Ningthoujam Nabadeep, all from Ninthoukhong Kha Khunou.
