Curtain raiser of International Conference on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources" held

IMPHAL, Sep 20 : Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organised the Curtain Raiser Programme for the upcoming International Conference on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Promoting Traditional Resources of NER for Viksit Bharat".
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, highlighted various initiatives of the institute for the development of Bioeconomy from Bioresources and promoting traditional resources of NER.
He mentioned that IBSD is synergizing the research activities for promoting bioeconomy from bioresources.
The Director also elaborated on the initiatives of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for implementing BioE3 (Biotechnology for Ecology, Environment and Employment) policy translational research, biomanufacturing and entrepreneurship development.
He asserted that the upcoming International Conference is an initiative of the IBSD for the development of bioentrepreneurship and promoting traditional resources of NER for Viksit Bharat.
G T Dhungel, Minister, Health & Family Welfare and Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, appreciated the initiatives of IBSD for promoting bioresources of NER.
He also congratulated the Director, IBSD for organising this international conference at Gangtok, Sikkim.
Sekhar Dutt, former Governor of Chhattisgarh & Advisor, SFE, stressed on the importance of traditional knowledge and bioresources for the development of drugs.
Dr Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH and Prof Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor (I/C), Sikkim University, Gangtok also appreciated the efforts of IBSD for organising the International Conference to highlight traditional resources of NER for Viksit Bharat.
The programme was attended by Prof Ashwini Pareek, NABI; Dr Ramesh Sonti, ICGEB; Dr Achintya Mitra, Asst Director in-Charge, RARI; Tshering P Bhutia, Assistant Director, SMPB; M Ravikumar, Director, MSME; Dr Suman Rinchen Lepcha, DST, Sikkim; Pema Bhutia, Horticulture Department and officials from Society from Ethnopharmacology (SFE), Kolkata.
Many traditional healers, entrepreneurs, researchers from Sikkim along with scientists, scholars and staff of IBSD also took part in the programme.
