IMPHAL, Sep 20 : A Personal Security (PS) of  CAF&PD Minister L Susindro alias Yaima was abducted by some unknown persons from Khurai Sajor Leirak, Imphal-Ukhrul Road near Babu Hotel at around 8.30 am today.
The PS identified as Sarangthem Somorendro (44) of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak was heading toward Lamlong Bazar in his vehicle with his family when he was stopped and abducted by the armed persons, sources said.
As soon as Somorendro reached Khurai Sajor Leirak near Babu Hotel, he was stopped by the unknown armed persons who came in a Maruti Gypsy.
The armed persons immediately put Somorendro inside the vehicle and sped away from the spot.
Soon after getting information about the abduction of CAF&PD Minister’s PS, security forces launched massive search operations in suspected areas to rescue the PA.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Somorendro and his whereabouts remained unknown till the time of filing this report late in the evening.
Sources said that Porompat Police have registered a case for investigation in connection with the incident.
On the other hand, locals of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak staged a protest demonstration demanding safe release of Somorendro at the earliest.
Local Meira Paibi leader T Bimola who took part in the protest demonstration said that Somorendro is currently serving as the general secretary of Chaithabi Leirak Development Club.
Even if Somorendro has committed any wrongs, it could be settled peacefully through talks, she said.
Saying that Somorendro should be released within 24 hours without any condition, the Meira Paibi leader warned that they would launch intense modes of agitation together with the people in case Somorendro is not released within the deadline.
Somorendro’s wife S Dipali said that they were going to the royal palace for an utsav when their path  was blocked by a Gypsy.
“As soon as we stopped our vehicle, some unknown armed persons jumped down from the Gypsy, forced us to open the door of our vehicle and took away my husband”, Dipali said.
She said that the armed persons assaulted Somorendro as soon as they  opened the door of their vehicle.
Dipali said that the armed persons threatened her too by pointing their guns at her.
According to Dipali, some of the armed persons came in a car (Swift) and on two-wheelers in addition to the Gypsy.
Saying that no one served any monetary demand to their family, Dipali told the media that no group/individual has communicated with them on the abduction of her husband so far.
The protesters used placards which read as “We condemn abduction of civilians”, “We condemn abduction of Somorendro”, “Release Somorendro safely at the earliest” etc.
Notably, a bomb was hurled at the residence of Somorendro by some unknown persons a few months back.
