NIA re-registers drone bombing case

IMPHAL, Sep 19 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday re-registered a case pertaining to the drone assisted bombing at Koutruk and Kadangband on September 1.
A 31 year old mother was killed in the attack while 10 others including a journalist and the daughter of the deceased were injured.
The NIA also filed an application before the Special Court of NIA to direct the Lamsang police station to hand over the case related documents, case diaries and seized materials to them to  investigate the case.  
The application was filed by the Chief Investigation Officer of NIA Imphal Branch along with a prayer to allow them to submit  the FIR they registered under different Sections of BNS and Section 25(1-B) Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and UA (P) Act.
The Special PP of NIA submitted that the Central Government received information from the Government of Manipur regarding registration of FIR by Lamsang police station in connection with the attack by unknown armed militants at Koutruk and Kadangband using sophisticated weapons like a sniper gun and dropping grenades using drones.
In compliance with the direction from the Central Government dated September 18, NIA Imphal Branch re-registered the case for investigation.
It was also submitted that the NIA needs to obtain all the police records from Lamsang Police Station to investigate the case.
The NIA then prayed before the Court to transfer all the judicial dockets/case record to the Special Court of NIA and to issue directions to the IO of the Lamsang police station to hand over all the case related documents, case diaries, seized material and exhibits to the Chief Investigation Office of NIA.
The Court on perusal of the application and after hearing the submission of the Special PP of NIA fixed October 14 for handing/ transferring of all the related documents.
