37th Sub-Junior Boys and Girls' State Basketball Championships begin

IMPHAL, Sep 1 : The 37th edition of Sub-Junior Boys and Girls' State Basketball Championships-2024 got underway at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court today under the auspices of Manipur Basketball Association.
8 boys' teams clubbed into two groups and four girls' teams are competing for top honours in the championships.
The boys teams will compete in the league round for four knock-out round berths while the girls' teams will compete in round robin league format before two top teams face off in the title clash.
In the boys opening match (Group B) this morning, YOSC, Khurai rode on Bidyaraj's 24 points to seal a comfortable 50-17 win over Youth Club, Uripok.
Lanchenba and Roosevelt also added 9 points apiece for the winning team as Ngangkham and Ng Lanchenba added four points each.
Shriyans in the meantime led the scoring for YC adding 6 points to the tally as Th Billgates added 5 points. N Dhanaraj  contributed four points in YC's tally as Digvijay added two points.
In the second Group B match, Sainik School recorded a 41-31 win over LMYVA, Lalambung courtesy of Yash Sharma who amassed 20 highest points. Aviraj followed suit with 14 points for the team as Aman Kumar Yadav added four points, Lucky added two points and Ansul Kumar added one.
K Anderson led the scoring for the Lalambung side adding 17 points as L Thomthilnganba and Ch Eddie contributed 6 points apiece and N Nelson added two points.
Later in the afternoon, Model Club, Chingamakha kicked off their Group A campaign with a huge 55-9 win over St Xavier School, Majuron. A Shatish topscored with 16 points for Model Club as W Yohenba scored 12. Th Sotindrachan and Gison Jit also added 8 points apiece to set up the huge win as Mairi scored four goals and Bonio scored thrice for the losing side.
In another Group A match, ESU, Wangkhei edged past Catholic School 33-31 thanks to Geetchandra (14 pts) and Mangalsana (12 pts). Pangakpa also added three points for ESU as L Salai and Bronson added two points apiece.
For Catholic School, Wanglen topscored with 13 points as Goldson scored 7 points, Nelson added 6 points. Jimmy also contributed 4 points to the team's tally as Barun scored one.
In the girls opening match staged this evening, RK Sanatombi School defeated Catholic School by 17-12 points. Inunganba starred for RK Sanatombi School scoring 10 points while Rupashree added four points. Rayana also found her name in the scoresheet for adding two points as Julibiya scored one. For Catholic School, Nancy Naorem scored all 12 points.
