POL transporters call off strike

IMPHAL, Aug 5:  The cease work strike called by the Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporter Fraternity has been called off today.
As such petrol and diesel supply from Malom Depot and also LPG supply from Sekmai Bottling plant too have resumed from today.
Moreover, shipping of petroleum products by transporters on Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH-37) will resume from August 6, said a press release issued by the consortium’s core committee.
The consortium’s core committee agreed to call off the cease work strike following  a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the State Government.
With Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, a meeting was held in the office chamber of the Chief Minister at 7.15 pm on August 4.
The meeting was participated by the Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, the Chief Secretary in-charge, ADGP (Intelligence), ADGP (Law & Order) and representatives of the Core Committee: Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporter Fraternity, retail outlet dealers, LPG distributors and the drivers’ association.
As per the MoU signed at the meeting, the State Government has already made adequate security arrangements for protection and movement of petroleum     products/tankers on NH-37 and it would be further strengthened as per further security assessment.
A control room has been opened to monitor movement of tankers round the clock under the command of a senior police officer of DIG rank to give utmost priority to security.
The MoU says that the State Government will take all necessary measures to stop extortions by UG elements/miscreants by holding talks with UG groups under peace agreement with the Government of India.
The State Government agreed to take up the matter of improving the standard and condition of NH-37 with NHIDCL/PWD to expedite the highway improvement work, according to the MoU.
Separate meetings shall be held with the dealers and distributors of petroleum products to address their issues, it said.
As per the MoU, the entire progress will be reviewed on August 17, 2024 and if implementation of the MoU is found satisfactory, transporters will  take their own decision.
The meeting also agreed to give suitable jobs to the drivers injured in the April 16, 2024 incident according to the nature of their injuries and qualification.
