Summer Workshop on Thang-Ta concludes

Moirang, Aug 26 : The 5-day Summer Workshop on "Thang-Ta" which was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India  concluded  today at the training hall of Panthoibi Thang Ta and Jagoi Sindam Shanglen, Moirangkhunou today.
The workshop was organised in association with the Panthoibi Thang Ta and Jagoi Sindam Shanglen from August 21 to further promote the indigenous martial art form in the State.
The closing function of the workshop was attended by Bishnupur district president of International Human Rights Social Justice Commission, Moirangthem Dhaballi; social worker, Labuktongbam Kondum; Thang-Ta Guru of Preservation of Manipuri Martial Arts and Cultural Research Centre, Deepak Khanachaoba; Sintakpurels of Panthoibi Thang-Ta and Jagoi Sindam Shanglen, Laishram Rajen and N Menaka as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, secretary of Panthoibi Thang Ta and Jagoi Sindam Shanglen L Raju said that the workshop was organised as per Ministry of Culture's instruction to organise 8 such workshops across NE States.
Such a programme will bolster the Thang-Ta movement in the State and neighbouring North East States, he said while loading the initiatives of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
He also underscored the importance of physical activities among students to achieve overall development of body and mind while maintaining that Thang-Ta can play a big part in enhancing students' physical fitness.
He also highlighted the growth of indigenous martial arts and dance forms from local courtyard to the world stage and  inclusion of these items as subjects for study in big educational institutes like Manipur University of Culture.
Students who attended the workshop demonstrated intricate Thang-Ta steps and other items including Thang-Chainaba, Thang vs Ta fight and Leiteng Jagoi.
Certificates for participation were also distributed to the participants.
