IMPHAL, Aug 21: Categorically stating that the term ‘Chin State of Manipur’ was deliberately inserted in the draft NE NEC Vision 2047, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked both the State Government and the Government of India to give a concrete assurance that a committee would be constituted to probe the matter and all the wrongdoers would be penalised within five days.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office this afternoon, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro asserted that insertion of the term ‘Chin State of Manipur’ in the draft NEC Vision 2047 cannot be a mistake in the midst of the war being waged by illegal immigrants from Myanmar against Manipur.
Everybody knows that there is no Chin State in India. Yet the term was inserted in the NEC’s draft vision document. It can be nothing but deliberate, Somorendro said.
It was not the fist time that key Government departments and major companies committed such highly provocative manipulations and fabrications, he said.
Earlier, there were incidents of printing the address of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal as Lamka on flight tickets and Thangjing was deliberately spelt as Thangting.
In addition, Bazar Leikai Moreh was changed to Mo-naphai, Premnagar to Ngamkhai Veng, Khunou Leikai to T Yangnom and Heinoumakhong to Chikkim in the PMJAY cards, Somorendro said.
Moreover, Haokip was found wrongfully affixed to the names of all NFSA beneficiaries of the Kom and Chiru villages located next to Leimaram.
When a joint team of UNC and COCOMI went to these villages and enquired about the matter, the beneficiaries revealed that they were not given NFSA rice if Haokip was not affixed to their names, the COCOMI coordinator said.
To all these repeated incidents of manipulations, fabrications and renaming, both the Centre and the State Government chose to remain silent, thereby arousing strong suspicion among the people, he said.
The Government of India and the State Government must dispel the people’s suspicion and anxiety. Moreover, befitting action must be taken up against all the officials/authorities involved in such manipulations, fabrications and renaming, he demanded.
If the Government of India and the State Government do not give a concrete assurance to form a committee and punish all those involved in inserting the term ‘Chin State of Manipur’ in the draft NEC Vision 2047 within five days, COCOMI would be constrained to launch a strong mass agitation from the sixth day, Somorendro said.
He said that the COCOMI  would send an explanation call to the NEC regarding the deliberate error it committed in its draft vision document.
