33rd Manipuri Language Day observed

JIRI/THB, Aug 20: In observation of the 33rd Manipuri Language Day today, a one-day national seminar on "Evolution of Manipuri Literature and its transformation" was held at the Mini Conference Hall of YK College Wangjing.
The seminar was organised by IQAC Seminar Committee and Manipuri Department of YK College.
The function was graced by Dr L Sanahal, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry as the chief guest; Dr Soibam Giri, Principal as the functional president and P Somarendra, Head Associate Professor, Department of English as the guest of honour.  
The event was moderated by P Somarendra.
Many papers were presented at the seminar, including Dr Longjam Anand, Assistant Professor, Manipur University speaking on "Power of a language"; Thounaojam Somokanta Luwang, Research Scholar, Assam University on BM Maisnamba's novel "Atithi Amagi Ahing"; Naorem Shilshila Devi, Research Scholar, Assam University, on "Cultural aspects depicted in old Manipuri poetry"; Dr Philem Baleshwar on "A look at Manipuri language"; Dr Naorem Apanba Meitei, Assistant Professor, Mangolnganbi College on "A look at Lai Ekouba (Kanglei Haraoba)" and Dr Naorem Binoy, Head, Manipuri Department, YK College on "Language in Laitonjam Premchand's short stories".
Separately, the Directorate of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages, Government of Tripura also commemorated the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution at Agartala Muktadhara Auditorium today.
Notable dignitaries at the event include Deepak Kumar Majumder, Mayor, AMC as the chief guest and Ratnajit Debbarma, Director, Directorate of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages as the functional president.
Meanwhile, Th Nilkumar, vice chairman, Manipuri Language Advisory Committee; L Birmangal, president, MSPT; senior journalist Monindra Konsam; Khoisnam Birola, member, Sahitya Akademi Manipuri Board were present as the guests of honour.
On the occasion, awards were distributed to five prominent personalities.
Additionally, MYFA and MEELAL, Assam also jointly observed the 33rd Manipuri Language Day celebration accompanied by the distribution of Meetei Mayek Diploma Course certificates today at Sribar GP Community Hall.
The event was attended by Thangjam Brojen, president, MYFA; Dr KN Chand, member, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi;  RK Sanahal and T Rehan Uddin.
