MHRC Chairperson interacts with residents of Moreh

IMPHAL, Aug 16 : Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Chairperson Justice UB Saha visited Moreh today  and interacted with the residents of the border town.
Justice UB Saha was accompanied by IGP Zone-1 Themthing Masangva and MHRC Under Secretary Ziaur Rahman in his maiden visit to Moreh town.
The Chairperson interacted with the members of Tamil Sangam and Meitei Pangal, Nepali and Kuki residents.
During the interaction, the Tamil community narrated that they have no other means for earning now as no businessmen from Imphal came to Moreh since 3rd May last year.
Other Moreh residents complained about lack of basic amenities including poor facilities at PHC to Justice UB Saha.
The Chairperson of MHRC made a point for other minority communities to play a mediating role in bridging the gap between conflicting communities during a meeting held at Tamil Sangam.
After hearing the petition from civil societies, the MHRC Chairperson also visited the relief camp located at Moreh Higher Secondary School and later visited the Meitei families taking refuge at the Key Location Point of Assam Rifles and reviewed their living conditions.
During the interaction, it was told that most of the IDPs who initially took refuge in Myanmar, since 3rd May last year, had been repatriated by the Myanmar authority and they were first taken to KLP and then, many of them have been shifted to the IDP camps in Thoubal.
 Justice Saha  also visited the Moreh town areas and inspected the destroyed community market in Moreh.
During interaction with the CSO leaders, Justice UB Saha took inputs on issues related to human rights.
He stressed on the importance of mutual respect and understanding while appealing to all communities to forgive one another for all the unfortunate incidents that have taken place and move forward.
He also appealed to all community leaders to work together to restore normalcy in the State.
