Gun fight ensues

Moirang, Aug 11 : A gunfight broke out between personnel of 5th Sikh Regiment and Kuki militants at Bunglon and Kangathei areas in Churachandpur last night at around 11.50.
Following the exchange of fire, personnel of Indian Army and BSF carried out a search operation at Bunglon areas and dismantled some bunkers.
It is reported that the gunfight ensued between the Sikh Regiment and Kuki militants while the former was trying to push back two groups which were engaged in a gunfight at Bunglon and Kangathei.
According to credible sources, the Kuki militants first fired a bomb towards the Central security force from the hilltop at Bunglon and Kangathei areas. After a few minutes, the Kuki militants fired two more bombs toward the security personnel.
The personnel of Sikh Regiment who were stationed at the adjacent areas of Churachandpur and Bishnupur fired some rounds towards the Kuki militants and the latter also returned fire to the security personnel and the gunfight continued till around 1.30 am.
There were no reports of casualties.
After the gunfight, personnel of the Indian Army and BSF carried out a search operation at Bunglon, Kangathei, Khoirentak etc and dismantled some bunkers.
Job applicants protest
IMPHAL, Aug 11 : Job seekers who took part in a recruitment process of MSPDCL and MSPCL held years back marched to the Chief Minister’s official residence today demanding results of the recruitment process.
The job seekers after being driven back by police staged a hunger strike at Keishampat.
The candidates of the recruitment process marched to the Chief Minister’s official residence before noon but they were driven back by police to the Nupi Lan Memorial Complex.
Later in the evening, the aggrieved candidates staged a hunger strike at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall.
Due recruitment process was initiated in 2019 to appoint 907 employees against eight different posts in MSPDCL and MSPCL but the results of the recruitment process have not been declared till date.
