IMPHAL, Jul 31 : Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram has appealed to the State Government to provide a compensation package to the family who lost two of its members including a two year old in a tragic mudslide that occurred at Tamenglong District Headquarters.
Raising the issue during zero hour on the first day of the 6th session of the 12th State Assembly, Surjakumar spoke about natural calamities which took place in other States, including the one at Wayanad where more than 170 people were killed.
Saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced compensation for the victims, the Opposition MLA expressed belief that the Central Government will announce a compensation package for the victims of natural calamities in Manipur too.
He appealed to the State Government to provide some sort of assistance to the victim family of the Tamenglong mudslide even if no assistance comes from the Centre.
