IMPHAL, Jul 7: The COCOMI Women Wing has asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the current situation of Manipur contradicted the ground reality.
Speaking to media persons at the Lamphelpat office of COCOMI today, the women wing assistant coordinator RK Tharaksana remarked that the statement given by the Prime Minister in the Rajya Sabha had no substance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a statement on the Manipur crisis in the Rajya Sabha after Dr Bimol Akoijam gave a passionate and powerful speech in the Lok Sabha.
Narendra Modi was saying that schools/colleges had been reopened and normalcy was returning in Manipur but nothing can be further from the truth, she said.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Centre would work to resolve the Manipur crisis after the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
Now the elections and even the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha are over but there is no indication of the Central Government working to resolve the crisis till date, Tharaksana pointed out.
She said that the people of Manipur have completely lost their trust in both the Central Government and the State Government.
Tharaksana said that a team of COCOMI Women Wing would soon go to Jiribam and interact with the displaced people.
She said that five members of the COCOMI Women Wing and some members of the students’ wing would go to Jiribam within two/three days.
“Everyone is now aware of the aggression of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists upon indigenous Meitei people. We would go to Jiribam and confer on defending ourselves from the aggression”, she said.
She then appealed to all the people for support and cooperation so as to make the Jiri trip successful.
