Bijoy Koijam, AR extend aid to flood victims

IMPHAl, Jul 6 : In a bid to provide some relief and alleviate the problems caused by the prevailing flood situation in the State, former MLA of Thongju Assembly Constituency, Bijoy Koijam in collaboration with 34 Assam Rifles and 5 Assam Rifles under 9th Sector Assam Rifles distributed relief materials at different places affected by the flood on Saturday.
Relief materials such as package drinking water, mosquito coil, rice, dal, salt, edible oil and other essential food items were provided to the flood affected people staying in Bashikhong Panthoibi Relief Camp, Bashikhong Mamang Leikai Relief Camp and Bashikhong Maimom Leikai Relief Camp.
Notably, about 150 families of Bashikhong area have been severely affected by the flood triggered by incessant rain over the last couple of days.
Moreover, Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) also distributed 1500 water bottles to the locals of Bashikhong and Kiyamgai Relief Camps on Friday.
According to a release issued by HQ IGAR(S), these camps and residential areas, severely affected by recent heavy rains, faced an urgent need for clean drinking water amid challenging circumstances.
Recognizing the critical requirement for safe drinking water in preventing water-borne diseases, Assam Rifles promptly mobilized resources to procure and distributed 1500 water bottles to the affected residents, ensuring that the relief camps received essential support during this difficult time.
The initiative underscored Assam Rifles' commitment to assisting communities in times of need and reflected their dedication to promoting public health and welfare.
Additionally, Assam Rifles conducted a security coordination meet cum interaction programme at Komlakhong village, Imphal West District on Saturday.
The event brought together village authorities and Civil Society Organisations from remote villages in the Assam Rifles' area of responsibility.
The initiative focused on addressing security challenges, strengthening cooperation between locals and security forces, and appreciating public support in maintaining peace & stability.
The programme also educated participants on monsoon precautions, encouraged youth to pursue education and sports, and promoted societal development.
The villagers also wholeheartedly pledged to maintain peace in the area in cooperation with security forces.
