THOUBAL, Jul 19: Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KHUKAMPAL) has demanded removal of Central Armed Forces (CAF) from Manipur for allegedly siding with a particular community and meting out biased treatments in the midst of the ongoing conflict situation in the State.
KHUKAMPAL, a women's body of Thoubal which is under Poirei Leimarol expressed that the people of the State are highly discontented with the activities of the CAF deployed in the State.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held at the office of the organization today, KHUKAMPAL secretary Ak Chitreshwori raised questions on the role of the CAF in the ethnic crisis plaguing the State for more than one year and two months.
She alleged that 'the Central Armed Forces give a free hand to the atrocities of the Kukis while strict measures are taken up against the Meiteis/Meeteis'.
She maintained that the role of these forces is questionable as they are not carrying out their duties efficiently in quelling the violence.
Highlighting that the people have lost faith in these forces, Chitreshwori said, 'The Central forces have stood as mere spectators at many occasions when violence and arson took place leading the indigenous people to the status of refugees'.
She questioned what measures were taken up by these forces to prevent the violence and arson in Torbung, Churachandpur and Moreh and relentless attacks carried out in Serou and Sugnu areas.
Talking of the influx of illegal immigrants in the State, Chitreshwori maintained that it is evident that the central armed forces which have been given the responsibility to prevent such influx have failed utterly.
In view of the above issues, she urged the authorities concerned to withdraw the Central forces from Manipur for the welfare of all.
She appealed to all the elected leaders of the people to work collectively to restore peace and harmony in Manipur setting aside political differences.
Today's press meet was also attended by eminent members of KHUKAMPAL.
