SENAPATI, Jun 3: In a decisive move to safeguard the rights and prerogatives of the Poumai Naga community, the Poumai Naga Union (PNU) has resolved to dissociate itself from the United Naga Council (UNC) and other associated organizations such as the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Women's Union, Manipur (NWUM), and Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR).
This resolution was adopted during the 3rd assembly of the union held on May 31 at the Sanyi Dahrii Memorial Sports Complex, Khabung Karong.
The resolution came following a May 20 indictment order which was served on 11 Poumai Naga leaders. The assembly rejected the order asserting "zero tolerance against external interference."
The PNU asserted it reserves the right to 'defend and secure' the Poumai people against any threats to their existence, well-being, and freedom.
The PNU assembly, while urging for withdrawal of the indictment order within 15 days (from May 31), said failure to comply may compel the PNU to initiate further actions, including launching a non-cooperation movement to protect vital interests of the Poumai Naga people.
The assembly also resolved that the Poumai Naga leaders named in the indictment order shall not resign from their respective public and social offices as they were elected by the Poumai assembly to continue their mandated roles.
The assembly also declared six individuals—Ng Lorho (Tunggam Afii), M Joyson Mazhamo (Khondei Shimphung), KS Paul Leo (Oinam), ML Markson (Laii), RK Holison (Kham-som), and Kh Sapunii (Phu- ba Khuman)—to have acted contrary to approved resolutions.
Appropriate actions will be taken against these individuals, including a social and political boycott of up to 10 years in accordance with Poumai Naga customary law and tradition, PNU said.
Furthermore, the assembly nullified a recommendation letter issued to Ng Lorho for the presidency of the UNC, effectively debarring him from representing the PNU or holding any position in related organisations.
The assembly also filled the vacant posts of the Poumai Naga Customary Law Court with V Dukhu from Phuba Thapham Village inducted as Court Chairman and RS Ngaopunii from Purul Atongba Village as Court Registrar.
Sh Dany, speaker of Assembly Affairs, PNU admi- nistered the oath of office.
The assembly reaffirmed previous PNU resolutions regarding the issue of Tingsong Centre, Tingsong Khunou, and Thiwa Village.
Over 500 members, including union executives, advisors, members of frontal organizations, village chairmen and secretaries, headmen, the Union Election Committee of 2024, Union Court members, various political and religious leaders, social activists, and well-wishers attended the assembly.
